Artist's Comments
This was taken on January 20th. The architecture of the Lyric Opera (the building was built in 1929) really caught my eye, and I more or less ignored the people to focus on the building and the way the buildings draw the eye into the center of the picture. When I went to review this in my camera, I realized I had completely accidentally captured a microcosm of Chicago life. On the left side you have buildings that are 77 years old, and on the other you have the steel-and-glass behemoths that can't be more than 10 years old. Look also at the people. When I look at them, I wonder, what were they doing? What were they thinking? Did they notice me? What are all their lives like? Every time I see this picture it makes me think again.
